The Sentiments of Fed Up American Citizens - My recent letter to Obama and Congress
Dear Mr. President, Senators Udall and Bennet, Congressman Polis, and the U.S. Congress:
From the Recovery Act on we as the entity that you answer to, the American citizens, have had legislation rammed down our throats at break-neck speed. We were told this would be the most responsible and transparent presidential administration and congress in history, yet where the rubber hits the road you have all proven the exact opposite. 1,000-1,300 page legislative monstrosities have been hurled at not only the legislators but we as American citizens with no chance to be properly informed before you all rush these bills through to a vote.
Now we are telling you the same things about the proposed health care legislation. We do not want to be forced into a government health care plan, but the current wording of this legislation will do exactly that. The CBO and Lewin Group state that anywhere from 20-120 million people will be forced out of the health care they currently have and into the government program. We are against you giving health care to 12 million illegal aliens as seen by the voting down of the Republican amendment last week to keep illegal aliens off the proposed health care plan. The CBO now tells you all that your health care legislation will drive up the cost of health care and not decrease it. You're not even covering the all those you claim are uninsured! How can you in good conscience push this bill through?
What makes less sense than anything is that all of the above-mentioned things you are doing in a down economy fly in the face of historical reason. We have never taxed, borrowed, or spent our way out of a recession (or depression). Add to that the fact Mr. President that you have put off the traditional mid-summer revealing of the budgetary numbers and economic indicators and it looks like you're attempting to delay this bad news so that you can pass this problematic health care bill.
We're fed up, and we're not taking it anymore! We're "putting you on notice" that we as American citizens will change things drastically come the next election cycle if this outlandish behavior persists. Don't be so sure that the Independents and conservative Democrats will rally to your side, many of them are already joining the numbers of the "fed up."
